DIY // Birthday Burlap Wreath

Hello everyone! I'm Daniela from Put A Bird On It. I am a HUGE fan of Cady and her adorable baby onesies, so I am thrilled to be guest posting on her blog. I am featuring Boughtin Baby & Bride's onesies on my blog this week, along with a GIVEAWAY, so be sure to visit the feature post to see how we styled her clever onesies.

I have a 1-year old daughter, Ava Noelle. I've always wanted to be a mom. I was married for 5 years before I had a baby, but I always knew I wanted the life of a stay-at-home mom. Even when I was going to school for piano performance or working full time as a receptionist at a veterinary hospital -- I always felt like whatever I was doing was simply "getting me through" until I had the opportunity to be a mom. I was so very happy when I got pregnant and finally got to live my dream. I thank God every day for this little bundle of joy.

When Ava was about to turn ONE, I knew I had to throw her a party! Everyone told me not to go all out, because she won't remember any of it, and it's not worth it. Guess what? I didn't listen to them! Ha ha. Sorry everyone. But this is my first baby and me being the craftaholic I am, how could I not do at least a few fun things for her very first birthday?! You can see all the details of her pink & gold themed 1st birthday party on my blog. But I saved my favorite craft from the party to share with you! I made Ava a polka dot & burlap wreath to hang on my front door! This project was SO EASY and fast. The best part? It doesn't have to be for just a baby birthday ... or even a birthday at all. This wreath is so versatile, you could make it for any holiday, occasion or no reason at all! Just swap out the colors & change the banner and you have a new wreath for whatever season you are in. Make a mini version to hang in baby's room all year long. Here's the tutorial. It is so easy -- which is what I am all about at Put A Bird On It. Thanks for reading and helping me celebrate Ava's special day a little longer. :)

POLKA DOT & BURLAP WREATH

You'll need a wreath form {I liked this straw one, because I didn't have to worry about metal or green styrofoam showing through}, balloons, polka dot burlap wire ribbon, floral pins

Wrap the ribbon around the wreath. The one spool was JUST enough.

I used one floral pin to pin down the end of the ribbon. You could use hot glue, too, if you don't plan to switch out your ribbon.

I wanted to share this photo, because it took a few tries before I found a technique to get my balloons to look like bows for the banner. Crafting isn't easy! Luckily, balloons are cheap, because I wasted several cutting them...blowing them up...and tying them, before I found a style I liked.

Simply take one balloon and tie it in a knot. That's it! It looks like a cute pink birthday balloon bow! Hot glue them in position on your wreath.

For the banner, I used a specialty paper that was a thin burlap/canvas material. I cut the letters using my Silhouette Cameo. You could purchase letters already cut out or just trace them on paper and cut! If you craft a lot, I will always recommend investing in a good quality cutting machine -- aka -- the Silhouette Cameo. I seriously use mine almost every day {click HERE for more Silhouette ideas!}. I then cut out two mini pennant flags out of sparkly gold paper {yep - with my Cameo!}. I just used hot glue to attach the 'A - V - A' and the pennants to bakers twine, which I then tied around the balloon bows {this way, I could switch out the banner easily without committing by using hot glue}.

Voila! So easy, right?! And so adorable. I mean, POLKA DOTS & BURLAP?! Swoon.

I am so glad we went "all out" for Ava's first birthday. I made my own invitations, had pink & gold cupcakes and a hot cocoa bar {which you can view HERE}. Ava may not "remember" her party, but my husband and I talked at the end of the night, and said that we KNOW she felt special & very loved that day.

A big thanks to Cady for having me hang out today. I would love to get to know you all, so feel free to stop by Put A Bird On It and introduce yourself! Like I said earlier, I am hosting a Boughtin Baby & Bride giveaway, so definitely visit HERE to enter. Thanks again! See you later!
